What is sprocket pulley

Sprocket is a kind of wheel with cogged chain teeth, which is used to mesh with blocks with accurate pitch on chain link or cable. Sprocket is widely used in chemical industry, textile machinery, escalator, wood processing, three-dimensional garage, agricultural machinery, food processing, instrumentation, petroleum and other industries of mechanical transmission.
The tooth profile of sprocket must ensure that the chain can enter and exit the meshing smoothly, reduce the impact and contact stress of the chain link as much as possible, and be easy to process.
Sprocket material should ensure that the teeth have enough strength and wear resistance, so the sprocket tooth surface is generally heat treated to achieve a certain hardness.

As a new gear product, the transmission speed of sprocket is high. In its specific application process, because of the advantage of high speed, the noise is very small, which is also conducive to achieve a good processing environment. Sprocket in its application, not only the installation accuracy is relatively high, but also the machining accuracy is very ideal, which can save a lot of trouble for future maintenance work. Moreover, the advantages of compact sprocket structure make it have larger transmission ratio, and its service life is also relatively high.

The sprocket is divided into driving sprocket and driven sprocket. The driving sprocket is installed on the engine output shaft in the form of spline; the driven sprocket is installed on the driving wheel of motorcycle, and the power is transmitted to the driving wheel through the chain. Generally, the driving sprocket is smaller than the driven sprocket, which can reduce the speed and increase the torque.

Maintenance 1

The tightness of sprocket should be appropriate, too tight will increase power consumption, bearing is easy to wear; too loose sprocket is easy to jump and take off the chain. The tightness of the sprocket is: lift or press down from the middle of the sprocket, which is about 2% – 3% of the center distance between the two sprockets.

Maintenance 2

The sprocket should not swing or skew when installed on the shaft. In the same transmission assembly, the end faces of two sprockets should be in the same plane. When the center distance of sprockets is less than 0.5m, the deviation can be 1 mm. When replacing sprockets, attention must be paid to check and adjust the offset.

Maintenance 3

After serious wear of sprocket, new sprocket and new sprocket should be replaced at the same time to ensure good meshing. It is not possible to replace only new sprockets or new sprockets. Otherwise, it will cause bad meshing and accelerate the wear of new sprocket or new sprocket. After the sprocket tooth surface is worn to a certain extent, it should be turned over in time to extend the service time.

Maintenance 4

The new sprocket is too long or elongated after use, which is difficult to adjust. The chain links can be removed according to the situation, but they must be even. The chain link should pass through the back of the chain wheel, the locking piece should be inserted outside, and the opening of the locking piece should be in the opposite direction of rotation.

Maintenance 5

The sprocket should be filled with lubricating oil in time. Lubricating oil must enter the fit clearance between roller and inner sleeve to improve working conditions and reduce wear.

 The old sprocket can not be mixed with some new ones, otherwise it is easy to produce impact in the transmission and break the sprocket.

When the machine is stored for a long time, the sprocket should be removed, cleaned with kerosene or diesel oil, and then coated with engine oil or butter and stored in a dry place.


Improvement Measures

The service life of sprocket is short, which can not meet the requirements of production practice. According to the service condition, processing status and manufacturing technology of sprocket, some improvement measures are put forward

The shape of the original sprocket socket is forged directly, which has large dimensional error, rough surface and low wear resistance. With the wide application of CNC machine tools and the reduction of processing costs, it is suggested to leave a little margin after forging and finish machining by numerical milling, so as to improve the dimensional accuracy and surface roughness, so as to improve the wear resistance.

The design material of the original sprocket is 40Cr, the overall quenching and tempering hardness is hb220 ~ 250, and the tooth quenching is hrc48 ~ 52. This method can not improve the wear resistance of sprocket basically because of the limited hardness of tooth quenching. It is suggested that the sprocket material should be changed to 20CrMnTi, carburized and quenched. The hardness of the chain socket can reach more than HRC60, and its wear resistance is more than 2.5 times that of 40Cr material. In this way, the service life of the sprocket can be greatly improved, the frequency of machine repair can be reduced, the productivity can be improved, and the production cost can be reduced;
